Spaceport America - it's a reality

Yesterday I took the New Mexico State Tourism Commission, Secretary of Tourism Mike Cerletti and several Tourism Department staff out to Spaceport America to give it a look to see how things are coming along. And, WOW. They are really coming along! This is a photo of the Terminal Hangar Facility, which will host Virgin Galactic operations. This side of the 3 story structure will have a glass front so that visitors can look out over the "apron" and watch the Virgin Spaceship Enterprise journey into sub-orbit.

The runway looks like it is almost complete. The Emergency services building - a giant dome - has taken shape. There is still a lot of work to be done, but there is already talk of a New Years Eve party at the site this year. I'll keep you posted.

It was inspiring to see how far this project has come in just a few months. I hope to get out there every couple of months for new photos. In the meantime, you can keep track of the goings on at www.spaceportamerica.com
